Avant-garde Distortion
I love metal with my whole heart. <3
Seriously, there really is no other genre I like better! Others may come close (e.g. industrial, goth) but metal will always be my number one. No shit I'd dedicate a whole portion of my site to it.

Explain Yourself
What is metal?
Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and United States. With roots in blues rock, psychedelic rock and acid rock, heavy metal bands developed a thick, monumental sound characterized by distorted guitars, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats and loudness.
Thanks, Wikipedia!
Why do you like it?
On a simple, technical level; Metal is a very stimulating genre to listen to. I love the riffs, the drums, and the unique vocals. It both energizes and relaxes me, and either helps me focus or get severely distracted (it depends on the day). What's there not to like?
Personally, though.. I love how cathartic metal is. From the lyrical genius down to the musical artistry, every song is packed with the rawest expressions of emotion. It's honest, it's brutal, it's shocking. Sometimes far too edgy for its own good— though I find that great, too.
Honesty, bluntness, and acknowledgement of terrible feelings/things/thoughts is rare in everyday life, but not when I put on my headphones and shuffle through my metal playlist. It quiets a part of my brain. It makes me feel normal for once.
People can invalidate each other's feelings all they like, but I know for sure that this random album from the 90s will never do such a thing to me. :P
TLDR: If no one got me I know metal got me. Can i get an AMEN?
How did you get into it?
I can’t recall the exact timeframe, but I’m pretty sure I started listening to metal music around 2021-2023— before all of that, it was largely indie pop, rock, and songs made using vocal synths.
It wasn't out of much intent, I just stumbled upon a Babymetal concert video and— curiosity already piqued by a comment saying something about "Slipknot's performance of Spit It Out [having] similar energy" (very paraphrased) —fell down a rabbithole.
Suffice to say, I watched that Slipknot concert and had my world absolutely rocked.
Wrong genre, but you get the gist.
Several nu-metal bands then joined the rotation alongside my usual pop, pop rock, and emo favorites. Most notably Slipknot, Linkin Park, and System of a Down. The lyrics and angry rhythms really spoke to me. Additionally, a lot of the people I knew hadn't expected me to be listening to the genre, and to call out the baby-poser I was, it was a real thrill.
Though, at that point, I didn't bother to get fully into it. I was still in my "emo" phase (I was a huge fucking poser, don't look at me) and only really liked a few Slipknot songs.
Until 2025, just this year, that is.
Sometime during/around April-June, my taste in media and content started taking a turn for the more niche and horrific. I'm talking about deep-dives on shock sites, in-depth slasher movie reviews, how horror shapes people, and godly fanart of my favorite characters going through the horrors. And, well, I noticed that a lot of the people who made these things were into genres like death metal and black metal.
I wasn't a fan of those yet. On my first few listens, I found both subgenres to be far too incoherent and intense to be enjoyable. But all these people who made content I liked, liked it. I wanted to know what was so great about it. I wanted to see what they saw in it, and hear what they heard.
But I didn't like any of the older, more well-known bands. Not only was it their sound, but the thought of liking group of people with such a documented history (usually with their own controversies), and their own fandoms (miss me with that parasocial shit, eugh), bummed me out. So, instead, I went onto Bandcamp, delved into the depths of the metal tags, and tuned into the waves of their radio show in search of new blood.
..And. Well. Here we are now!
